Here at Bagnet, our goal is to make
women’s lives easier one Bagnet at a time.
WE’RE A COMPANY FOR WOMEN, BY
WOMEN and as we grow we continue to
consider how we can make a positive
impact on women’s lives.
We feel inspired and empowered by the
legacy of women like Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
the second woman ever to serve on the
U.S. Supreme Court. Justice Ginsburg was
an advocate of gender equality and
women’s rights. From the time she was
appointed in 1993 until her death in 2020,
Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought for equality,
became a social symbol for women’s
rights, and paved the way for generations
of women who follow.
WE’VE CREATED A BAGNET TO HONOR
THIS TRAILBLAZING WOMAN AND
WE’RE SHARING 5 THINGS WE THINK
YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HER.

Ruth understood that people can find common ground without having the same political views. In fact, she became close friends with the late Justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative Supreme Court Justice appointed by Ronald Reagen, by bonding over their love of opera.

Ruth met her husband, Martin D. Ginsburg (Marty), as an undergraduate student at Cornell and they married soon after her graduation. The couple approached their marriage as equal partners—both contributing financially and sharing chores, cooking, and childcare—an arrangement that was atypical at the time.

While working as a professor at Rutgers University, Ruth found out she was pregnant. She became nervous that the university would not renew her contract if they found out, so she wore baggy clothes to cover the pregnancy until her contract was renewed.

Ruth is well known for her work in women’s rights, but she believed in equal rights for everyone. Ruth also fought for gay rights, the poor, and many other marginalized groups.

Traditional justice robes were designed to show a man’s shirt and tie. Ruth and Sandra Day O’Conner, the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court, decided that women should have a way to express their own personal style too. This is why they created the jabot (or collar) that Ruth became known for.
